The Agriculture Education curriculum is designed to: (1) develop in prospective teachers a knowledge of subject matter in agriculture essential for planning and implementing programs of agricultural education, (2) increase the understanding of the problems confronting teachers of agriculture in teaching young and adult groups and to develop ability and skills to teach such groups, (3) develop in prospective teachers the ability to think reflectively through the kinds of problems encountered by teachers of agriculture, and to develop the skills and attitudes necessary for solving these problems, (4) develop self-confidence in prospective teachers and the ability to organize courses in agriculture in accordance with sound educational principles, (5) prepare students for graduate study. Agricultural Education courses are designated AGED.

Requirements for Agriculture Education major to move from Pre-Agriculture Education major to admitted Agriculture Education major:

  • Overall GPA of 2.75 or better, with no grade below “C” on all attempted core hours.
  • Satisfactorily complete at least 50 semester hours of core courses and institutional requirements.
  • Pass all parts of GACE Basic Skills Exam or written proof of exemption; 1000 on SAT verbal and math; 43 on ACT English and math).
  • Satisfactorily complete Pre-professional Block (PPB) courses, EDUC 2110, and Pre-Professional Block Portfolio.
  • Submit an acceptable background check form to police department and submit the printed results with your application.
  • Submit acceptable rating on three dispositions instrument.
  • Satisfactorily complete the interview process and electronic portfolio presentation.
  • Submit three (3) letters of recommendation
  • Submit proof of membership in GAESP, SPAGE, NAAE, or appropriate education related organization which provides liability insurance.
  • Submit the Ethics Entry Assessment Exam results.
  • Be eligible to receive the Pre-Service Certificate (if a candidate is denied Pre-Service Certificate by Georgia Professional Standards Commission, then his/her admission status into the Techer Education Program at FVSU will be denied or revoked..

Requirements for Enrollment In Methods Course

  • Maintain admission requirements in TEP.
  • Complete related field experience with “C” or better.
  • 12 hours of content courses with no grade lower than a “C”.
  • Approval to enroll in the Methods Course.

Requirements for Enrollment In Directed Teaching (Student Teaching)

  • Maintain admission requirements in TEP.
  • Completion of ALL content course work, with no grade lower than a “C”.
  • Complete Methods Course with a “C” or better.
  • Pass GACE (in all required areas) prior to registration for student teaching.
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher.
  • Pass Ethics Exit Assessment Exam.

Graduation Requirements

  • 2.75 GPA and passing score on edTPA Assessment
