MPA Course Requirements
Students admitted into the online MPA program will study Foundations of Public Management, Leadership and Organization Behavior, Managerial Economics, Public Policy Analysis, Human Resource Management in Public Sector, Public Budgeting and Finance, and Administrative Ethics with professionals and professors who bring strong analysis and best practices to students learning. Students in the online MPA program will also grow their professional network of public service professionals throughout the program and after graduation. All courses are delivered 100% online during 8-week e-terms with two cohort starting each year (fall and spring), respectively.
Course Requirements
The online MPA program require the successful completion of a minimum of 30 semester credit hours. There is no thesis option required in the MPA programs. The MPA online degree is only one concentration area in Homeland Security and Emergency Management:
- Cores courses 21 credit hours
- Concentration: one area in Homeland Security and Emergency Management
- Students are expected to choose one concentration area with only 9 credit hours (3 courses).
- Practicum - Practicum (experiential Learning or internship) course 3 credit house
Remarks: Students must complete all course work and testing requirements prior to graduation.
MPA students with at least three years of professional leadership experience in public service sector, health administration, homeland security and emergency management may be eligible for internship waiver. MPA students without three years of professional experience in a leadership position must complete the internship requirements of 120 hours in a reputable public affairs department or agency. The approval of an internship waiver will be determined by the MPA Graduate Coordinator, and the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs and Dean of Graduate Studies
