The College of Education and Professional Studies is committed to the preparation of “proficient educators” who are competent in content, pedagogy, and technology, as well as educators who possess a caring disposition while understanding and appreciating diversity. This commitment is implemented through our programs, partnerships with the College of Arts and Sciences, and area public schools. Undergraduate programs currently available are Agriculture Education, Elementary Education/Special Education, Health & Physical Education, and Middle Grades Education. Post baccalaureate certification programs are in Middle Grades and Agriculture Education. The following sections outline program requirements as well as mapped courses across four years of study.

Requirements for Admission to Undergraduate Education Programs

  • Have a cumulative GPA of 2.7 or better, with no grade below C, on all attempted core hours.
  • Complete 50 or more semester hours of core courses and institutional requirements.
  • Complete all Pre-Professional Block courses: EDUC 2110, EDUC 2120, EDUC 2130, and EDUC 2110P.
  • Have an “Acceptable” background check
  • Have an “Acceptable” or above rating on three (3) Professional Behaviors and Dispositions rating forms.
  • Have an average of “Acceptable” or above on the Interview for Admission to Teacher Education
  • Have “Acceptable” or above ratings on three (3) recommendation forms
  • Have proof of membership in GAESP or SPAGE or other Special Professional Association
  • Have completed the Georgia Professional Standards Teacher Ethics 360 upon admission into the Educator Preparation Program 

Students will receive the Field Placement and Teacher Candidate Handbooks that outline other program requirements.

Successful completions of all state licensure exams and program assessments are required for program completion and university graduation.
