Admission Requirements
Applicants must possess a graduate degree in a related counseling field from a regionally accredited institution. The applicant should follow instructions for General Requirements for Admission to Graduate Studies as shown above.
Other requirements:
- Have a renewable S-5 certificate in School Counseling in the State of Georgia.
- It is preferred that applicants are working as a professional helper in a school, e.g., school counselor, graduation coach, or social worker.
- During their first semester in the program, candidates will need to have a clear background check.
Graduates from the School Counselor Education Specialist (Ed.S.) program will demonstrate advanced knowledge, skills, technical competencies, and dispositions to function proficiently as school counselors in the 21st century. Proficient school counselors work in primary, elementary, middle, and high school settings and create an atmosphere where all candidates can learn. The program meets all the educational requirements for the Professional School Counselor Certificate, Level 6. By taking two courses per semester, the program can be completed in five semesters. The program considers candidates’ backgrounds and adds knowledge, skills, values, and professional practices, which will allow them to be leaders in Georgia schools and to build upon their interests and experiences.
Classes are totally online.
