SOWK 5401 - Special Issues in Alcohol and Drug Counseling


Credit Hours: 3
This course covers topics in addiction treatment and would prepare students to learn how to practice alcohol and drug counseling. It will also explore substance abuse and motivational behaviors. It also provides students with required case management training on how to work in a licensed alcohol and other drug treatment facility. Students will learn how to work in multidisciplinary teams and gain familiarity with clinical supervision methods. In addition, students will become familiar with the use of the Addiction Severity index (ASI) a quite common assessment tool widely used in substance abuse treatment settings. This course will utilize a convergence of knowledge to prepare students for their role in advancing the treatment of alcohol and other drug dependency.
